Join our Big Cats Africa Safari to capture cheetahs, lions, and leopards in action! We'll observe the cats in their natural environment socializing, playing, and even hunting. Expect to spend a lot of time in the field as we anticipate and predict the big cats as they seek out and hunt their prey. We'll be based in two different camps in the Masai Mara depending on where the most pronounced big cat activity is. And then we'll spend a few days in Amboselli capturing the wildlife under the snow-capped peak of Mt Kilamanjaro. With a max group size of 6 clients and 2 instructors, everyone will have their own row in the safari vehicle for unobstructed shooting. Workshop is all-inclusive along with charter flights to/from Nairobi, Amboselli, and the Masai Mara so you won't have any gear weight limitations. So get your cameras ready!

Capture cheetahs, lions, and leopards in action throughout the Masai Mara!

Lead instructor Jeffrey Wu is an award-winning wildlife photographer who spends 10 months out of the year following Kenya's big cats in the Masai Mara. He has photographed well over 700 cheetah hunts and intimately knows their behavior and habitat.
Small group of 6 photographers with 2 instructors. Everyone will have their own dedicated row in the safari vehicle for unobstructed shooting.
Expert instruction both before and during the workshop on camera techniques, action shooting, composition, and post-processing.
Workshop includes all food, lodging, ground transportation, and 3 charter flights to/from Nairobi, Amboselli, and the Masai Mara.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi, Kenya (airport code NBO). Transportation to the hotel will be provided along with a personal airport escort.
Day 2: We'll start the workshop with Meet and Greet at breakfast and then drive to the airport for our charter flight to the Masai Mara. Our camp is located in the center of what is called "The Circle of the Cats." This is the most concentrated area in the Masai Mara for finding cheetahs, lions, and leopards. Our expert drivers will get us in position for capturing the best action shots! If we're lucky, we may even get to observe the hunting behavior.
Days 3-5: We will stay at this camp for the next 4 nights. We'll be going out early each morning on safari drives with a mid-morning bush breakfast. If there is good hunting action, we could be out until afternoon. We'll return middday, have a rest break and then hold classroom sessions covering a variety of topics. We then head out on an evening safari drive before returning to the camp for dinner.
Days 6-8: Today we move to a different camp in the Masai Mara offering different scenery and new wildlife sightings. Our schedule will remain the same with morning/evening safari drives and midday classroom sessions.
Day 9-11: After our morning safari, we board a charter flight to Amboselli and get checked into our new lodge. That afternoon we photograph a variety of bird life before finding our sunset wildlife subjects in front of the awe-inspiring Mt Kilamanjaro. We have another full day in Amboselli on Day 10. And on Day 11, we go out for a final morning safari before coming back for breakfast and our charter flight to Nairobi. We'll check into a hotel in Nairobi where you'll have a day-room where you can shower, re-pack, and rest before your international flight in the evening. Transportation will be provided that evening to the international airport for your flight home.

Logistics

Plan to arrive in Nairobi, Kenya anytime on or before Day 1. Most international flights arrive in the evening and a hotel room will be provided for all participants. We will meet together as a group at breakfast on Day 2.

We strongly recommend that all participants purchase their own travel insurance. The proper policy will cover things like last-minute cancellations, medical emergencies, and any non-refundable fees connected to the workshop. This workshop includes accommodations only on Day 1 and is all-inclusive from Day 2 until you are dropped back off at the hotel on Day 11 (transportation, meals, and accommodations). All you need to worry about is taking incredible photos!

The base price assumes double occupancy. If you book as a single participant but want double occupancy, we will attempt to pair you with another participant of the same gender. If that is not possible, you will be asked to pay the single supplement.

Shortly after registration closes, we will set up a Zoom meeting to discuss gear and pre-trip planning. You will receive additional information via email to ensure you are set up for a successful and memorable trip!

Jeffrey Wu

Jeffrey Wu is a world-renowned wildlife photographer, conservationist, author, and educator. He fell in love with Africa back in 2013 and has since spent 10 months each year photographing the wildlife in Kenya and beyond. Jeffrey's photos have won many awards and he is well known for his in-the-moment action shots and story-telling style. As an active member of the Kenya Tourism Board, he is actively working to protect and preserve these fragile ecosystems. Wendy Casey

Photography Instructor

Wendy is proud to be a Utah Native and began hiking and camping with her parents at a very young age. She has many fond memories hiking to amazing viewpoints and taking in the grandeur that is Utah. Her interest in photography began in the 80’s where she made her film images come to life in a darkroom.

She now enjoys the creativity of the digital world by photographing a wide range of interests, from Landscape, Wildlife, Portraits, to Sports. Her favorite is capturing epic scenery with a human interest.

When Wendy and her husband Randy are not at home on their farm, they are out on a trail somewhere, exploring, photographing and creating videos of their adventures. Wendy has a lot of experience with horses on their ranch and will be an instructor on some of our wild horse and ranch workshops.

Over the years, she has participated in many art shows. Her local favorites are the Kimball Arts, Park City Art Festival and Midway Swiss Days. She has shipped her art around the world and has her work hanging throughout the state in hospitals, clinics and many large and small businesses. Her images have also been featured in and on the covers of local magazines.

Wendy loves to help others develop their passion for photography and capture through the viewfinder, winning scenes to last forever and an epic story to go with it.
